Dementia Services and Hull Memory Clinic

Changes in memory can happen for lots of reasons, and they do not always mean dementia. If you are becoming concerned about your memory, getting advice early can help you understand what may be happening and what support is available.

Our memory services in Hull and the East Riding provide specialist assessment for people experiencing memory difficulties. The team will take time to understand the changes you have noticed, carry out appropriate assessments and, where possible, identify the cause.

If a diagnosis is made, the team can talk through what it means and offer treatment and support. This may include medication, practical advice, group support and links to other services. Family members, carers or other people important to you can also be involved where appropriate.

What should I do if I am worried about my memory?

The first step is to make an appointment with your GP.

There are a number of conditions that can affect memory, so your GP may want to check for other possible causes before deciding whether a referral to a specialist memory service would be helpful.

If you are worried about someone else, encourage them to speak to their GP and offer to go with them if they would find that helpful.

Getting answers early can help people and their families understand what is happening, access treatment and support where needed and plan for the future.
