How our mental health and wellbeing coaches supported Rebecca
Meet Rebecca
Mental Health and Wellbeing Coaches offer one-to-one support to help people understand what is affecting their wellbeing, build confidence and find practical ways to move forward. They look at the whole picture, including emotional wellbeing, work, relationships, physical health and other pressures in everyday life.
Rebecca was referred to YOURhealth by her GP after experiencing persistent low mood. Recent changes in her personal life, including separation from her partner, alongside the pressures of a demanding job, had left her feeling exhausted and burnt out.
Working with a Mental Health and Wellbeing Coach gave Rebecca space to focus on what she needed, understand the different pressures affecting her wellbeing and begin making changes to support her recovery.
The support
-
Following referral, Rebecca completed a Recovery Star assessment with one of our Mental Health and Wellbeing Coaches, to identify priority areas and track progress.
Rebecca then attended discussions to learn more about how she felt, which included feelings of being overwhelmed and unable to bring order to her life. She wished to explore coping skills to better manage symptoms and made it clear that she didn’t want to get to the point where her only choice was to be on long-term sick from work.
-
Further sessions explored what Rebecca’s goals were. She chose Trust, Hope, Identity and Self-Esteem as areas she wished to work on with us.
As part of goal setting, we also explored what skills and coping techniques Rebecca might try to help her feel better day-to-day. This included things like a good nighttime routine which improves sleep hygiene, and list making to decrease the mental load. It also included meal planning ideas, to get ahead and make life easier when getting home from work.
-
During this time, Rebecca mentioned she used to enjoy things like meditation and reiki, and that these activities helped her to relax. Coaches encouraged making time for herself again and supported her to ensure these activities could be prioritised.
Coaches also helped Rebecca put in the steps to better manage expectations from others and the importance of prioritising your own health and wellbeing, even when learning to balance a busy and demanding lifestyle.
The outcome
At her final appointment, Rebecca noted feeling optimistic for her future. She was grateful for the tools and information provided by her Coach, which was helping her manage her symptoms and take care of her wellbeing.
